RESUMEN
El siguiente artículo tiene como objetivo compartir las reflexiones acerca de la definición conceptual de los mecanismos de la democracia directa, así como también realiza una serie de aproximaciones historiográficas y teóricas
sobre la evolución de las múltiples formas de la democracia directa en el mundo occidental.
Se realiza una discusión desde Rousseau y Montesquieu, hasta algunos fenómenos políticos latinoamericanos contemporáneos. En este sentido, el presente artículo busca analizar y rescatar el valor integral de los mecanismos de democracia directa como forma de progreso cívico en el ámbito político y social, a través de un acercamiento a sus múltiples manifestaciones políticas y a las nuevas interacciones que plantea con las dinámicas políticas y las configuraciones institucionales.

ABSTRACT
The following article aims to share the reflections on the conceptual definition of the Mechanisms of Direct Democracy, as well as a series of historiographical and theoretical approaches on the evolution of the multiple forms of direct democracy in the Western world. A discussion is made from Rousseau and Montesquieu to some contemporary Latin American political phenomena. In this sense, this article seeks
to analyze and rescue the integral value of the mechanisms of direct democracy as a form of civic progress in the political and social sphere, through an approach to its multiple political manifestations and the new interactions it poses with the political dynamics and institutional configurations.
